Dr. Renate Baumgartner
Renate Baumgartner is Assistant Professor of Participatory AI at Vrije Universiteit. Her research focuses on fostering more inclusive AI development through participatory methods, particularly in medicine and healthcare. Her presentation will provide an introduction to ELSI in the context of healthcare with a particular focus on the ethical and social dimensions of AI development. Using the example of a mobile application designed to support individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) the talk will illustrate how ethical and social aspects can be considered in a participatory design process. This approach emphasizes the involvement of stakeholders to ensure that AI solutions are not only technically robust but also socially responsible and ethically sound.
